Nerja Markets

Nerja has two markets per week, both located in the same area to the north east of the town centre at the end of Calle Cisne and both starting at around 10am and continuing until the midday heat of 2pm approximately.

The Tuesday market is made up of a wide range of stalls. You’ll find the typical sunglasses, watches and leather goods alongside fruit and veg, clothing of varying qualities, shoes, ceramics and local produce characteristic of the Axarquia area.

The Sunday market is a mix between a car boot sale and flea market and depending on your tastes could be a treasure trove of fascinating items or a load of old junk but it’s popular with locals and gets a good following, particularly in the cooler months.

Getting there

Unfortunately, getting to the market from the town centre means either car, bus or a 20 to 30 minute walk, at least some of which will be uphill. The best option is to go by the local ‘Urban’ blue bus that regularly makes its way around the town. The most notable stops near the town centre include those near the Monica hotel on La Torrecilla beach, Hotel Jimasol, Plaza la Ermita and a number along the N340 that goes through Nerja. During the morning there is a bus every 30 minutes until 2pm after which it becomes hourly.

If you plan to go by car head along the N340 road that goes through Nerja towards Maro and when you get to the Burriana beach roundabout go left, up the hill, following the people. You’ll see a small street to the left which will likely be blocked by a barrier. Our tip is to go past this on go on up the hill where you’ll more easily find parking with a designated parking area a few hundred metres or so later on the left.

Other Markets

Each town along the coast has its own market generally taking place at the same time of day and all accessible by bus from the Bus Station. If you feel like going to a market and seeing a bit of the coast whilst you’re at it try visiting one of the ones listed below;

  • Monday: Torrox Costa
  • Tuesday: Salobrena
  • Wednesday: Algarrobo Costa
  • Thursday: Torre del Mar, Frigiliana
  • Friday Almunecar, La Herradura
  • Saturday: Caleta
