Places of interest in Nerja
Although only a relatively small town, Nerja and the wider municipality of the same name enjoy some surprising places to visit. Ranging from the obvious tourist attractions of the Nerja Caves and famous Balcón de Europa, the nearby village of Frigiliana and mountainous natural park of the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama, you’re sure to find a place you can call special in our list below.
Balcón de Europa
Undoubtedly the heart of Nerja, former fortress and tourist attraction, no visit to Nerja is complete without getting to know the Balcón de Europa and taking a few photos.
Nerja Caves / Cuevas de Nerja
One of the principal tourist attractions of Nerja and a subject of continuing scientific investigation, every visitor to Nerja should take a look at the Nerja Caves.
The church of El Salvador
The 17th century church of El Salvador on the Balcon de Europa plays a central part in the town’s life and is a place you’re sure to see whilst wandering through Nerja.
La Ermita de la Senora Nuestra de Angustias
A small yet pretty 18th century chapel found in Plaza Ermita, boasting recently restored murals and acting as the year round resting place for the towns patron saint.
Nerja Cultural Centre
A 355 seat theatre and exhibition space located in Calle Granda. It offers all manner of shows by both local and visiting groups.
Nerja Museum
A relatively new addition to Nerja, the towns museum acts to compliment a visit to the caves and supply some of the history that surrounds them. It also acts as an exhibition centre for various local and international exhibitions.
Natural Park - Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama
Nerja is on the southern boundary of large national park which crosses the Malaga / Granada provincial border. If you like the outdoors then this is a great place to spend some time.
