La Rosaleda exhibition arrives in Nerja - 24th Nov 2017
This Monday an exhibition of 75 images of Malaga's Rosaleda football stadium will be opened in Nerja at the indoor sports centre from 6pm. The exhibition which has been travelling the municipalities of the region since July when it first opened in Marbella is to mark the 75th anniversary of the stadium. The commemorative photographic collection covers the entire life of the Rosaleda from its construction in 1941 to the present day and will be opened by former team member Sebastián Hernández Reyes and club historian Domingo Manuel Muñoz.
Town halls cooperate on Senda Litoral - 23rd Nov 2017
The mayoress of Nerja has met with her counterpart in Torrox to forge ahead with planned upgrades to the coastal walkway known as the Senda Litoral. Rosa Arrabal and various local councillors met with the mayor of Torrox Óscar Medina and his team to work together on the walkway paying particular attention to the stretch from the Torrox River to Nerja's Rio Seco. The discussions covered technical aspects of the project as well as locations for viewpoints and rest areas.
Water company warns of sporadic water cuts this evening - 21st Nov 2017
Aguas Narixa is informing customers that due to servicing and upgrades to the water network currently underway residents in certain areas of the town may experience supply cuts this evening. The areas of Avenida de Pescia, Campillo Vidrio, Cementerio, La Ermita, Cuesta del Ingenio, Castilla Perez, Torrecilla and Chaparil will all be affected from 10pm until 4am the following day. Once the water supply has been restored it is recommended to let it run for up to five minutes.
New subsidy approved for Nerja's beaches - 16th Nov 2017
It was announced today that Nerja will receive a new subsidy to improve the equipment and overall quality of the municipality's beaches. The new funding which totals €100,560 comes from the 2014-2020 rural development program for Andaluica which is part of an EU initiative. One of the primary goals of the funding is to improve accessibility to beaches but the subsidy will also be used to improve the general facilities in the area with proposals for new covered rubbish containers, lifeguard stations(s) and shaded areas currently under discussion.
Sports facilities get upgraded - 13th Nov 2017
Over the course of last month Nerja's Enrique López Cuenca sports stadium received a number of upgrades and new installations as part of the councils continuing plan to improve the towns sporting facilities. Requests by the highly successful athletics club were heeded with the upgrading of equipment for field events including new safety netting for discuss and hammer throwers and a new landing matt for high jump competitors. As well as this the stadium was equipped with new Rugby posts that can quickly be put up and taken down meaning that Nerja can now host rugby federation events and competitions.
Klaus Potratz opens his new exhibition - 9th Nov 2017
The German artist Klaus Potratz will open a new exhibition in Nerja this evening as he displays a collection of works that he calls "Impressions of the Costa del Sol". From 7:30pm visitors will be able to take a look at the paintings of this visiting artist who finds the colours and light found here particularly inspiring for landscapes and seascapes. The exhibition will be open in Nerja's Calle Cristo exhibition space until the 25th November with both morning and evening viewings.
Mayoress looks to secure British tourism - 8th Nov 2017
Rosa Arrabal, mayoress of Nerja, flew to London this week to fly the flag for the town at the World Travel Market tourism show. The event which is now in its 37th year is seen as one of the most important in the travel industry, particularly for Costa del Sol resorts meaning that Nerja was not alone in looking to seduce potential British visitors. Amongst the various locations that were highlighted at the event the nearby natural parks of the Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama and the Acantilados de Maro / Cerro Gordo were amongst the most prominent whilst the regions gastronomy, fiestas and wider heritage were also a key component in the offer to potential visitors.
Photographic exhibition opens in cultural centre - 6th Nov 2017
Tomorrow evening at 8pm a new photographic exhibition will open in the Nerja cultural centre organized by the education and culture department of the town hall. The collection of images which are the work on the Nerja photographic club is entitled "Doors, Windows and Facades" and aims to give an insight into city life highlighting the architecture, the way of life for residents and decorative elements which make the cities in question unique. The club, which has been running for over 20 years invites everyone to come and take a look at their work at the exhibition which will remain open until the 6th January.
Crowds turn out for Maroween - 2nd Nov 2017
The neighbouring village of Maro held its annual chestnut and sweet potato festival this week, mixing the event as usual with a ghoulish Halloween theme. The festival once again proved popular with locals and visitors with a total of 800 kilos of chestnuts and sweet potatoes being served up to those who made it to the streets of the village. As with every year the organisers would like to thank all those who made it a success including the organising committee, local police and protection civil, sponsors and everybody involved in providing the diverse selection of activities.
Nerja receives new funds from provincial council - 31st Oct 2017
It's been announced that Nerja is to be one of four municipalities in the region to receive extra funding from the provincial council to make up for narrowly missing out on an earlier economic assistance scheme. The populations of Nerja, Cártama, Alhaurín el Grande and Coín all surpass 20,000 registered residents meaning they were excluded from the provincial assistance and cooperation plan which saw millions of euros distributed to towns and urban areas throughout the province of Málaga. The four will share just over €1.1 million with each receiving €280,000 to be spent on whatever the respective town halls consider their highest priority.
Blood donation service returns this week - 26th Oct 2017
Malaga's blood donation service will return to the municipality tomorrow as part of its latest campaign to bolster the blood reserves of the province. Once again those wishing to donate can do so in the offices of El Salvador church either in the morning or afternoon from 10am until 2pm and again from 5pm until 9pm. Members of the service wish to remind those individuals interested in donating that women should only donate up to three times per year and men a maximum of four.
Water treatment plant works restart - 25th Oct 2017
This week representatives of the ministry for the environment confirmed that work will begin again on the towns water treatment plant after months of paralysis. The announcement comes following efforts by the ministry to find a way forwards despite the economic problems of the construction consortium which forced work to stop in January of this year. Once permissions are issued by the town hall work can start on the pumping stations located throughout the town leading to the expected completion of the project by the end of 2018.
