September beach from music concert announced - 17th May 2017

The council today announced a second edition of last years Playazo beach music concert in a poster unveiling ceremony in the main council chamber. The mayoress, Rosa Arrabal alongside youth councillor Sara Rivas, tourism councillor Patricia Gutiérrez and a number of artists taking part in the event unveiled the publicity poster for the concert which will take place on the 16th September and include a variety of national and international groups. The first 2,000 tickets are already available online with more making their way to further points of sale.

Tapas route gets under way - 15th May 2017

The fifth edition of Nerja's tapas route will get under way tomorrow with eighteen bars from every corner of the town getting involved. Amongst the various establishments are some well known names with the Nerja Parador, Mar Bella and La Joya all taking part in the route offering a tapa and beer for €1.80. Those on the route who fill their card with stamps from at least nine of the eighteen participating bars can go on to enter a raffle with the top prize of a free dinner for four and their weight in beer! The route will continue until the 15th June.

New road works announced for Puente viejo bridge - 12th May 2017

The town hall has announced to residents that the Puente Viejo bridge on the Hypersol roundabout will be closed on Monday 16th to allow for necessary repairs to be carried out. The repairs will improve the surface of the bridge and reduce the amount of maintenance work required by resolving issues caused by water eroding the packing material just below the surface layer.

Authorities rush to prepare beaches for summer - 10th May 2017

With the busy holiday season fast approaching local and regional coastal authorities have come together to repair the beaches which suffered the most sever damage during the late April storms. The town hall and national coastal authority began work to repair La Torrecilla, El Chucho and El Playazo beaches this week following a significant movement of sand down the coast. Cristina Fernández, councillor with responsibility for the upkeep of the local beaches explained that this week sand had been moved from the western end of El Playazo back to the most effected areas and that projects to prevent such problems in the long term were still under active consideration.

Senior residents get competitive - 8th May 2017

Last Friday some 55 Nerja residents over the age of 60 travelled to Torremolinos to take part in the eighteenth meeting of "Seniors in sport". The meeting brought together over 1,500 people to take part in a series of popular games, dances and sporting activities centred around balance, coordination, stamina and precision. Amongst all the municipalities Nerja was the best represented, sending the greatest number of participants of any single region. The local council are eager to point out the benefits of an active lifestyle to older residents highlighting the social, physical and mental benefits such activities can produce.

CCVN hosts Saturday night Jazz - 5th May 2017

The Nerja cultural centre is playing host to David Mesa and his "Jazz it up" quartet this Saturday evening with a style and collection of music they describe as modern and open. Amongst familiar toe tapping hits they'll include a number of their own works which although primarily modern also draw on the Latin background of the groups members with influences from Flamenco and Latin music in general. If you'd like to go along the concert starts at 9pm with tickets costing €10.

New exhibition opens in Nerja Museum - 4th May 2017

The Nerja museums Ana Maria Marquez hall has opened its latest exhibition today this time displaying pieces by Malaga artist Alberto Tarsicio. The collection entitled "unKNOWN" is made up of 24 large scale pieces and features naturalist landscapes alongside de-constructed portraits which the artist hopes provides a conciliatory point between classical and modern art. The exhibition will remain open until the 2nd July.

Weekend success for X-bike Nerja - 2nd May 2017

Last weekend brought continued success for Nerja's X-bike cycle club with numerous members taking part in the 25th Torre del Mar triathlon and many achieving notably high places in the overall classification. In an event which attracted more than 400 athletes club member Jesús Narváez took first place in the veterans II category and 16th overall in the half distance race with fellow member Miguel Rosado six minutes behind him crossing the line in 29th overall place and 12th in the veterans I category. Sergio Narváez was the next X-biker across the line in 49th overall place as part of the seniors grouping.

New reports of false gas inspections - 28th Apr 2017

The local authorities would like to advise residents of new reports of false gas installation inspectors operating in the municipality. The individuals have been presenting identification and paperwork claiming to be employees of a well known local business sent to carry out a free periodic inspection. The individuals then proceed to identify faults with the installation seeking to charge for unnecessary repairs. After numerous complaints to the company wishes to make residents aware of the issue.

Antonio Hidalgo opens new exhibition - 26th Apr 2017

Art enthusiasts might like to pass by the C/ Cristo municipal hall during the next couple of weeks with a collection of works by Antonio Hidalgo on display until the 11th May. The collection consists of paintings and sculptures by the artist covering subjects from landscapes, seascapes, fish, horses and scenes from the feria. If you'd like to visit the "Remembranzas" exhibition you can do so from 11am until 1:30pm and from 6pm until 9pm every day.

Local fishermen investigated - 24th Apr 2017

Officers from the Seprona environmental agency are currently investigating four individuals for the illegal fishing and subsequent sale of a protected species of shark. The investigation began when a photograph of what is believed to have been a thresher shark was posted on a social media page and reported by various users to the authorities. The thresher shark also known as the fox shark has been listed as a vulnerable species by the world conservation union since 2007 primarily due to over fishing and is protected both by national and international law. The case has now moved on to the public prosecutions office of Málaga.

La Ermita concerts now in fifth edition - 21st Apr 2017

This evening will see the latest intimate concert given in one of Nerja's most beautiful hidden treasures, La Ermita de la Señora Nuestra de Angustias. Veronika Nahapetyan on violin and Virgilio Meléndez on cello will perform a selection of classical music in the small chapel from 8pm.
