Thursday night Tango - 28th Apr 2016
In the Nerja cultural centre this evening Lastra productions will perform their latest show "Entre Tangos" from 9pm. The show, which comes as part of a wider season of tango in the centre, aims to take the audience on a journey starting in 1930's Buenos Aires, passing through the South American Belle Epoque, the Paris cabaret and finishing up with modern day tango styles. If you'd like to see the show, be sure to pass by the cultural centre's box office a few hours prior to get your ticket.
New vehicle for municipal cleaners - 21st Apr 2016
The towns municipal cleaning service got a boost today with the delivery of new equipment to assist them in the day to day cleaning of the municipality's streets. A new high pressure water cleaning unit was delivered which includes a range of differing functionalities and importantly a significant reduction in noise compared to previous models. The machine has been installed into a new van supplied by Carrocerías Hermont which has also been painted in the new colour scheme for municipal vehicles making it easily visible during both day time and night time.
New exhibition by Rosario Nevado - 19th Apr 2016
"Vintura" is the name of the latest exhibition to open in Nerja which will be inaugurated this evening in the Sala Municipal at 8pm. Rosario Nevado has spent the majority of her years living in either Nerja or Granada and is presenting a journey through all her years as an artist, showcasing her changes in style, technique and themes with pieces painted in oils, watercolours and acrylics on display until the 10th of May. You can visit the exhibition both mornings and evenings from 11am until 2pm and from 5:30pm until 9:30pm.
Regional coastal cleaning plans announced - 18th Apr 2016
The local authorities have announced that a fleet of eleven boats will be active this summer cleaning the surface of the sea along the Axarquia coastline. A representative of the body which represents the various municipalities of the eastern Costa del Sol explained that a budget of €354,249 had already been agreed upon and the bidding period opened for interested parties. The boats will patrol the coastline from Rincón de la Victoria up to Nerja during the summer months picking up all types of rubbish found on the waters surface.
Dangerous animals require municipal license - 15th Apr 2016
Nerja's local police chief has announced that owners of breeds of dogs considered to be potentially dangerous will soon require a municipal license to walk their pets in public areas. Owners of dogs with a particularly muscular build such as Pit bull terriers, Staffordshire bull terriers and Rottweilers amongst other breeds will require a license for each dog and be expected to be able to present the document upon request whilst in public areas. He also added that such pets will be expected to be muzzled and on the lead at all times.
Residents day returns this Sunday - 13th Apr 2016
This weekend the many foreign residents of the municipality will put their hobbies, customs and cuisine on display with Residents Day 2016 getting underway on Sunday at midday. Jorge Bravo Gallardo, foreign residents councillor, encourages everyone to go along to Plaza de España to get to know first hand some of the traditions, culture and gastronomy of the varied foreign influences on Nerja and maybe catch one of the stage performances too. This year the event will include 42 different stalls with the event finishing (officially at least) at 5pm.
Four in a row for Nerja runner - 11th Apr 2016
Last weekend brought over 7,500 runners to the streets of Málaga with the city's annual half marathon taking place on Sunday. The race, which was in its 26 edition, started on the western side of the city near the Martin Carpena stadium and continued along the coast, around the port and historical centre of the city before returning to its starting point. Abdelhadi el Mouaziz of the Nerja athletics club won the male event in a time of 1 hour 5 minutes and 59 seconds, an impressive achievement given this is the fourth consecutive year that the athlete has won the race.
Bikers lunch in Torrox Costa - 8th Apr 2016
This weekend will see another impressive gathering of motorcycles in Torrox Costa with enthusiasts from all over the province coming to a Sunday gathering organised by the Ruta 340 bikers shop. For a €10 attendants get food and beer, a free t-shirt and ticket for the events raffle as well as enjoying live music by "A Little Less" and the company of fellow motorcycle enthusiasts. The organisers have also collaborated with local charities encouraging locals and visitors to bring along dog food for Podencos and APA Nerja, both of which do much valued work rescuing abandoned pets with free beer for those that donate!
Police receive new vehicle - 5th Apr 2016
Today the local police took possession of a new vehicle from the Director General de Trafico, the government body that is responsible for the Spanish transport network. The car was delivered by Trinidad Hernández, provincial head of the traffic authority in Málaga and comes equipped with radar scanners to catch speeding motorists as well as road side breathalyser testers. The car was officially received by local police chief Miguel Ángel García Cortés and Nerja councillor Cristina Fernández Pinto.
Spring festival 2016 - 4th Apr 2016
The youth department of the town hall has announced that the 4th edition of the increasingly popular Spring Party will be held on Saturday the 23rd of April from 1pm until 11pm. The party, which is organised in conjunction with the various bars and establishments of Plaza Tutti Frutti, will have live music from 'Al Aire Libre', resident DJ's from the nearby bars and free paella for those that attend!
Easter week attracts visitors - 1st Apr 2016
The town hall has released figures today showing that hotel occupancy in the municipality over the Easter period reached a high point of 95.77%. The average occupancy during the seven day period was 90% with the most popular hotels and hostels recording an impressive 95% rate over the same period. Although the figures during this period often reach such heights this year stands out as particularly encouraging with the Semana Santa this year falling in march which has always tended to lead to sub 90% figures.
Light and Colour on display in new exhibition - 29th Mar 2016
Lola and Ana Garcés opened a joint exhibition of their work in the town today at the Sala Municipal in Calle Almirante Ferrándiz. The exhibition, which is called 'Formas, Luz y Color' will be open until the 17th of April and feature two different disciplines with Lola presenting a collection of paintings from her 30 years as a developing artist while Ana displays a number of decorative lamps created with a wide range of materials to create different reflections and projections of colour. If you're interested in taking a look you can go along between 11:30 and 2pm and again from 6pm until 9:30.
