Nerjaâs Socialist Party demands that Los Huertos parking is free - 6th Jun 2012
The spokesman of the PSOE in Nerja, Luis Pena, and the socialist mayor, Pedro Romon, have filed a motion in a town hall meeting regarding the Los Huertos parking area concerning usage and pricing. The two have highlighted irregularities leading up to the introduction of a charge to park in the area and have voiced concerns that the car park does not meet minimum security, hygiene and public service standards
The Nerja Museum adds a 4,300 year old skull to its exhibition - 18th May 2012
The Museum of Nerja has added to its artifacts a petrified skull, found in the Nerja Caves in the 60's, believed to be almost 4,300 years old.
The piece dates from the Copper Age and is popularly known as "Napoleon", due to the shape of the skull and the rock into which it's embedded. The skull joins many of the other remains found within the caves in the Museum of Nerja and is currently on public display.
Underground car park in Burriana gets the go ahead - 10th May 2012
The City Council has approved the necessary plans for the works to begin on the new underground carpark in Burriana. Antonio Garcia, the local Councillor for Infrastructure remarked "This approval marks the beginning of steps leading to construction commencing", which, according to the mayor, is expected to begin after the summer.
From now on, there will be a public exhibition period for interested companies to submit bids for the project which will create over 180 new parking spaces in the area.
Resident Day postponed until Sunday 6th May - 28th Apr 2012
Due to the threat of rain, the town hall of Nerja has chosen to postpone Residents Day, planned for the 29th April until Sunday 6th May. From the Municipal Office for Residents Inocencia Quintero has apologized for any inconvenience this change may cause adding "it is better to postpone the celebration a week and celebrate it with all the guarantees". The program of events however will remain the same.
Nerja residents Day brings together over 60 nationalities - 17th Apr 2012
Innocence Quintero, the local councilor for residents, presented the activities featuring in this yearâs residents day taking place on Sunday, April 29, with the participation of some 33 associations and groups both foreign and Spanish. As in previous years, the event will be held in the Plaza de España.
Hotel occupancy at Easter reaches 80%, 10 points above the Malaga average. - 14th Apr 2012
Nerja enjoyed a busy Easter period this year with hotel occupancy reaching 80.39 percent, ten points above the average for the province, according to the Tourist Board of the Costa del Sol.
Artisan market in La Plaza de España - 6th Apr 2012
On Easter Sunday in La Plaza de España from 10am until 8pm youâll find the artisan market with all sorts of stalls and products. Organized by âla Asociación de Acción Culturalâ and in conjunction with the town hall there will be some fifty stalls for you to walk around and maybe find a bargain or two.
Nerjas beaches receive award for their quality - 5th Apr 2012
Nerjas town hall receives the international certificate of quality ISO 9001 from the Spanish OCA institute of certification for the management of the towns beaches. The award was presented to town hall officials on Burriana beach. It recognizes the efforts made by the town hall in improving the quality of the beaches, the experience enjoyed by visitors and the attainment of pre-agreed objectives.
