Nerja loses two blue flags - 14th Aug 2012
In a surprising move the town has lost its Blue Flag status for the beaches of El Playazo and Maro. Probably the first time that this has happened in the middle of summer Maro beach was penalised due to lack of car parking whilst El Playazo lost its blue flag due to inspectors finding bbqs and vehicles parked on the sand.
Fire on La Cuesta del Rio in Frigliana extinguished - 13th Aug 2012
Local authorities worked all afternoon to bring the fire under control which flared up early on Sunday afternoon at around 6pm. The local governments Infoca plan which is in place to deal with the prevention and extinction of forest fires swung into action with the deployment of two helicopters and a specially equipped cargo plane with all the personnel necessary. The fire in the highly flammable scrub area was soon brought under control and finally put out.
The White Party returns! - 10th Aug 2012
On Tuesday 14th from 10:30 on El Salón beach Nerja celebrates its yearly White Party with Music, GO-GO dancers and free non-alcoholic cocktails! Come dressed all in white and ready to party!
Malagaâs CPB adds a new rescue vessel to its fleet - 6th Aug 2012
The Provincial Fire Consortium (CPB) has included a new rescue vessel to its existing fleet in order to provide better coverage in the event of emergencies on the eastern coast of Malaga. This new boat will be part of the specialized water rescue unit of the CPB and will cover the coast from Rincon de la Victoria to Nerja.
8 million invested into tourism, culture and the local food industry - 9th Jul 2012
The provincial council of Malaga has agreed to invest 8 million euros into seven cultural projects throughout the province in order to boost tourism, culture and aid local food industry. Included in the projects are new museums, libraries, improvements to local Bodegas and local infrastructure in all areas of the province including Guadalhorce, Ronda, Antequera and the Axarquia region.
End of Season Concert of the Municipal Band - 4th Jul 2012
The Municipal Band on 7th July offers a varied concert held at the Centro Cultural Villa de Nerja.. The show consists of two parts, the first including individual performances from the winners of the Young Artists Initial Grade and Intermediate 2010 and 2011 and the second in which local young people perform a variety of pieces ranging from baroque to jazz, with a selection from the Grease soundtrack. The concert will begin after 9 pm and is priced at 5 euros per ticket.
The Museum of Nerja set to host Scientific Film Series - 1st Jul 2012
Through the months of July and August the Museum of Nerja will be showing a series of scientific films covering a variety of topics. The series will begin on Friday 6th of July and will continue with a film screening every Friday at 8:30pm until 31st August and is free to all who wish to attend.
Tourist office publishes a new Nerja brochure - 28th Jun 2012
The Municipal Bureau of Tourism is now offering an updated tourist information booklet including information on the towns beaches, history, its museum, local foods and events as well as information on the Caves of Nerja. As well as this, a new guide to the areas hiking trails is available including routes through the natural park of the Sierras Almijara, Tejeda and Alhama and the cliffs of Maro Cero Gordo natural park.
Nerja deploys its lifeguards - 21st Jun 2012
Since Saturday 23rd Nerjas lifeuard service has been in full operation covering the towns most popular beaches, including Burriana, Calahonda and El Salon. This years service is comprised of 51 lifeguards and a number of rescue vehicles with coordination positions on Burriana and Torrecilla beaches.
A musical evening in the Plaza de los Cangrejos - 19th Jun 2012
On Friday, June 29, the Plaza de los Cangrejos will host a 'Málaga Express' concert organized by The Pantry Films, sponsored by the Provincial Government and with the cooperation of the town hall and the association Nerja en Directo. The concert is free and will feature the groups Pumuky, Odeondreams, Kermit, and the group Stilldawn and the local nerja group L.A.CrÃa.
Nerja prepares for the Night of San Juan - 15th Jun 2012
Burriana Beach is once again the center of the events organized to mark the festival of San Juan, beginning on the evening of the 23rd of June. You'll find music and dancing until twelve o'clock when, as is the custom, bonfires will be lit with a firework display. The town hall has also put some basic restrictions in place for the period for the good of residents and visitors alike including restrictions on camping on the beaches, the use of generators on the beaches and hours between which music cannot be played.
Nerja maintains its four blue flags - 8th Jun 2012
Burriana, La Torrecilla, Maro and Playazo beaches will, for the third consecutive year, fly the Blue Flag during the summer with both Burriana and La Torrecilla beaches also maintaining their âQâ for quality awards. This data places Nerja near the top of the list regarding these distinctions in the province of Andalusia, beaten only by Marbella, Roquetas and Rota.
