Municipal band gives Christmas concert - 16th Dec 2015

This Saturday evening the Nerja Municipal band will offer its traditional Christmas concert in the Cultural Centre in Calle Granada at 9pm. The program will be as varied as ever with typical Spanish carols alongside music by James Curnow, Hans Zimmer, Juan Amador and Coldplay. Tickets cost €5 and are available from the centre's box office.

Art exhibition opens for festive period - 15th Dec 2015

Maribel Martín and Brendon Taylor opened their new exhibition this afternoon in the Calle Cristo municipal hall in the centre of Nerja. The exhibition, which is called 'Dos mentes, una pasión', is the second exhibition that the duo have given this year and contains portraits, abstracts and figurative pieces painted in the last two years. If you'd like to visit the exhibition which will be open until the 3rd of January you can do so in the morning from 11am until 2pm and in the afternoon from 6pm until 9:30pm.

Málaga's most handsome come to Nerja - 14th Dec 2015

The 19th of December is a day that many of the female residents of Nerja may like to make a note of with the 51 contestants for this years Mr Málaga male beauty pageant coming to town. The Balcón de Europa will play host to a fashion show to introduce the contestants to local residents and to promote the event which will go on to crown Mr Andalucia, Mr Spain and maybe even Mr World! Local businesses will also be involved with the contestants modelling garments available in local shops in the show that begins at 4pm.

Town hall announces residents day 2016 dates - 11th Dec 2015

The foreign residents department of the Nejra town hall has today announced the dates of next years Resident Day which will take place in Plaza de España just a short walk from the Balcón de Europa on the 17th April. The event will follow the example of previous years with the familiar stalls, music, dancing and stage area, beginning at midday. Associations, clubs and groups that would like to take part are encouraged to email the foreign residents department at extranjeros@nerja.es as soon as possible to reserve one of the limited number of stalls available.

Municipal nativity scene opens to the public - 10th Dec 2015

Yesterday evening the annual nativity scene put together as part of the municipal display was revealed to the public in a small ceremony in the tunnel of the main town hall building. The mayoress, Rosa Arrabal Téllez, attended the event along with popular traditions councillor Patricia Gutiérrez Román and numerous local residents to sing traditional Christmas carols and hymns. This years scene, designed by José Miguel Ortuño Rodríguez, is set up in the Casa Consistorial window directly opposite the tourist office so anybody interested in passing by and taking a look can do so at any time during daylight hours.

Nerja hosts charity padel tournament - 9th Dec 2015

The Narixa Padel club in conjunction with the sports department of the town hall announced today that it will host a tournament this weekend to raise funds for the municipality's food bank. Entrance to the tournament, which is to be held at the indoor sports facility behind the Enrique López Cuenca stadium, is free to sign up for with the only condition being that each player must bring 4 kilos of food as a donation. All are welcome to watch the tournament which will take place on Saturday from 10am to approximately 1pm and encouraged to bring donations of non perishable food items which can be left at a collection point in the sports centre itself.

Festive trimmings get competitive - 4th Dec 2015

Local councillors and representatives of the Nerja Centro commercial association have today announced details of this years competition for the best Christmas shop window display. The period for potential contestants to get involved will remain open until midday on the 24th of December with no limitations on the materials or space which entrants can use. This year the winner will receive €300 in prize money with second and third places receiving €200 and €100 respectively.

Cycle club receives recognition - 3rd Dec 2015

Nerja's X-Bike cycle club has for the second year running been recognized as one of Andalucia's premier cycling organisations by the Andalucian cycling federation. The club, which does a lot of work with children in the community, has the particular objective of promoting a healthy lifestyle through sport as well as teaching road safety for cyclists. The award will be officially presented on the 13th of December at the 28th Andalucian cycling gala to be held in the nearby town of Almuñecar.

Horses take centre stage - 1st Dec 2015

Councillors Cristina Fernández Pinto and Patricia Gutiérrez Román today presented posters for two new equestrian events here in the municipality. Alongside members of the 'Los Tejanos' association which has organized the two events the councillors released an approximate timetable for a 'Western Dressage' competition which will take place on the 26th of December and an 'Enganches' competition whereby drivers of horse draw carriages compete in a contest of control and style. Both events are to held in the Castillo Alto area of Nerja near to the Frigiliana road with various categories for contestants.

Nerja athlete wins prestigious half marathon - 30th Nov 2015

Last weekend Esther Hidalgo of the Nerja athletics club improved upon an already highly successful year with another important victory by crossing the line first at the Córdoba half marathon, one of the most prestigious running events in Andalusia. She completed the distance in a time of 1h18s in a hard earned victory just nine seconds ahead of Inma Cantero who came in second place. Esther, who is originally from Granada, has also won the 10km Málaga city and Nerja Feria road races this year and is now preparing for the Spanish national half marathon competing against some of the best athletes in the country.

4x4 enthusiasts gather this Saturday - 26th Nov 2015

This weekend Nerja is once again set to hold its annual 4x4 enthusiasts meeting in the Castillo Alto area of the municipality on the way up to the N340 motorway. The 2015 event has been divided into the two main categories of exhibition and event and will begin on Saturday at 6:30pm. The first evenings activities will begin with night time trials followed by dinner, music and dancing. On the second day the exhibition will begin from 11am with three distinct categories of production vehicle, modified vehicles and prototypes with the competition closing at 4pm when the winners will be announced and prizes awarded.

Natural world photographic exhibition opens - 25th Nov 2015

A new photographic exhibition by Javier Delgado and Lisa Rackstraw opened today in the Calle Cristo municipal hall entitled "Las Ballenas Jorobadas de los Mares del Sur". The 40 images come from a study of humpback whales which the couple began in 2011 and is primarily made up of underwater images of the whales in their natural environment. The exhibition is open both mornings and evenings from 11am until 2pm and from 5pm until 9pm.
