Fire station politics - 14th Dec 2013

The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, will formerly ask for assistance from the president of the provincial council of Malaga, Elías Bendodo, regarding the funding for Nerja's new fire station complex this coming week. Despite plans and funding being agreed some seven years ago the Junta de Andalucia has continued to drag its heels on the project which the town hall and provincial council have already heavily invested in. El Playazo works begin - 13th Dec 2013

Following pressure from land owners along the track that runs behind El Playazo beach the coastal authority today began work removing a 200m stretch of dirt road and returning it to a state suitable for beach users. The section begins at Rio Seco and ends at the site of the new car park which was opened only last summer. The result will be that motorists can no longer drive from Nerja to the Marinas de Nerja hotel along the coastal track but will have to use the N340 road instead. The town hall has stressed that this is a direct result of the police reports submitted by land owners of the area concerning dangerous driving along the track. The remaining section of the road from Nerja can still be used however to access the car parks and Chiringuitos along the beach.
