Nerja caves hosts conference - 20th Nov 2013

From the 5th of December the Nerja Caves will be hosting a meeting of internationally renowned experts in the field of prehistoric art. Almost one hundred doctors and writers on the subject will attend the third such conference which on this occasion has been organized by the Nerja Caves Foundation in collaboration with the University of Cordoba. The conference is set to last for four days ending on the 8th.

Civil protection service receives new equipment - 19th Nov 2013

The provincial council of Malaga has delivered an assortment of new equipment to Nerja's civil protection team and eleven other such services along the coast at a cost of €33,677. The basic equipment such as traffic cones, barriers, simple fire fighting equipment and temporary road signs will be used across the municipality during the many events and occasional emergency situations that occur throughout the year.

Bornolero gives Nerja concert - 18th Nov 2013

The well-known artist Juan Carlos Armario Pinto, known as El Bornolero, has announced that he'll be giving a concert in Nerja on November 30th to help raise funds for the Brotherhood of the Virgen del Carmen, a Catholic organisation that particularly worships the incarnation of the Virgin Mary that overseas and protects fishermen and sailors. Juan Carlos is a Copla singer, a branch of Flamenco that gained popularity in the 1940's and remains popular to this day. If you're a fan of Spanish culture this is one not to miss. The concert will be held at the cultural centre, starting at 9pm with tickets costing €5.

Car park improvements postponed - 16th Nov 2013

The earlier reported closure of the Rio Chillar car park for much needed improvements to remove pot-holes and flatten out the surface will now begin from Monday the 18th of November. The work is expected to take up to three weeks, during which residents and visitors will not be able to use the area.

Road works in Nerja - 15th Nov 2013

Antonio García, councillor for infrastructure, has announced that the go ahead has been given to road works in the passageway joining Plaza de España with Calle Carmen. The work is primarily concerned with the aesthetics of the area which is used by many visitors to access the most emblematic parts of the town. The expected cost is around €60,000 with 45 days being allowed for the project to be completed.

Access road for new fire fighter facility - 14th Nov 2013

Nerja's mayor, José Alberto Armijo, has announced that funds have finally been secured to construct the access road for the new Firefighters complex just off from the Frigliana road. The provincial council of Malaga has made available a grant for €164,460 to finance the work on the 400m stretch allowing four months for it to be completed. It's hoped that the remaining paperwork can be quickly completed and that work can start before the end of the month.

Cultural centre charity concert - 14th Nov 2013

Tomorrow night from 9pm the Cultural Centre will host a meeting of five local choirs from Nerja and the wider Axarquia region who will perform along with the guitarist Manolo Torres to raise funds for the Spanish charity Cáritas which supports vulnerable and marginalized people throughout Spain. Local councillor Gema García has encouraged locals and visitors to attend a pleasant evening in support of a very worthy cause. Entrance is €5.

Promotional film makers visit Frigliana - 13th Nov 2013

Last Monday Frigliana was visited by a film crew taking footage for the Costa del Sol tourist board. The team which has been visiting some of the regions prettiest corners is putting together a promotional film as part of the tourist board's on-going efforts to publicise the Costa del Sol to an increasingly international audience. The film once finished will be used at a variety of promotional events and tourism fairs all over the world with Frigliana providing the idyllic image of a white walled Andalusian village.

Car park closure - 12th Nov 2013

The town hall has announced that the large car park on the banks of the Rio Chillar and location of the new health centre will be closed as of 8am tomorrow (Wednesday 13th) for work to be carried out and will remain closed until all works are completed. Any cars remaining will be running the risk of being towed away so owners are advised to park their vehicles in one of the other car parks available in the town.

Nerja Carnival wins recognition - 11th Nov 2013

Malaga council have awarded Nerja's annual carnival the distinction of 'Singularidad Turística' which roughly translates to 'Unique Tourist Attraction' for bringing originality and yet at the same time tradition to its version of the customary celebrations that take place throughout Spain just before lent. The council made particular reference to the large numbers that the carnival attracts as well as the flamboyance and originality of the costumes paraded.

Science week at the Caves - 8th Nov 2013

The Nerja Caves is once again embracing science week which this year is in its 8th iteration. Science week aims to bring the world of science to people's lives across Europe and to that end the Nerja Caves is offering two free activities, one on the 12th and the second on the 14th November which aim to highlight aspects of the caves that are not quite so obvious and the ongoing work taking place there. La Gran Senda almost complete - 5th Nov 2013

The Provincial council of Malaga has announced that it has completed a 420km section of the much anticipated 650km long Gran Senda route that will connect Nerja with Ronda. The northern arc of the circular walking/cycle route has been completed with sections of the return journey also ready to be opened. The whole route should be open for public use by the end of the year.
