Nerja enjoys 95% hotel occupancy - 20th Aug 2013

It comes as no surprise that this time of year is by far the busiest for the hotels in Nerja but figures recently released by the municipal tourist office has shown that hotel occupancy in the first two weeks of August reached an impressive 94.65%, slightly higher than the figures for the whole of August 2012 which reached a peak of 93.36% and that occupancy through July peaked at 90.39%.

Three cultures festival comes to Frigliana - 19th Aug 2013

This year's Tres Culturas tapas festival is set to begin this Thursday in the village of Frigliana to the north of Nerja. This is the eighth edition of the festival which encourages locals and tourists to take on a tapas trail throughout the local bars which this year is made up of some 18 separate establishments. As well as tapas there are two concert areas with music of all types, a market and various other events which the organizers hope will bring enough visitors to beat last year's record of over 25,000 served tapas over a four day period. There is a regular bus service provided especially for the festival between Nerja and Frigliana at a cost of one euro from the bus station with the festival ending on Sunday 25th .

Summer program proven a big success - 19th Aug 2013

Gemma Garcia, councillor for Education and Culture in Nerja, has highlighted the great success that this year's performances have proven to be in the Plaza de los Cangrejos close to La Torrecilla beach. Under the name of 'Verano en los Cangrejos' each day local artists have brought to the square a new spectacle for visitors and locals to enjoy and more often than not take part in. There are still two weeks of activities left to run on the schedule so feel free to wander down one evening and see what's going on.

Town Hall eyes up new Sports harbour ……again - 16th Aug 2013

The town halls joint party committee has announced its intention to once again apply for the Andalusian public ports agency to look into the possibility of situating such a facility in the Eastern Costa del Sol area within the municipality of Nerja. It's a project that has been on the cards for the area for over a decade and despite the APPA itself admitting the necessity for such an installation has remained in a state of flux.

Fiesta Blanca cancelled - 15th Aug 2013

Last night's annual Fiesta Blanca suffered a fatal knock back last night when the party was cancelled at the last minute thanks to strong waves flooding the area around the main stage. The cancellation of the event which usually takes place on El Salon beach meant an unexpectedly peaceful night for local residents of the area and an opportunity for the towns nightclubs to cash in on disappointed party goers.

Nerja Caves gets promoted in Panamá - 14th Aug 2013

The Malaga born choreographer Fernando Hurtado who has recently embarked on a three month tour of South American with his sixty strong dance troop has also taken the time to promote the Nerja Caves in Panamá! It's part of the campaign by the Caves Foundation to promote the natural attraction whenever and wherever possible and marks another market which the organisation has reached thanks to its collaboration with the local artist.

International conference set for end of year - 10th Aug 2013

It's been announced that Nerja, in conjunction with the Prehistoric department of the University of Cordoba and Malaga provincial council, will host an international meeting of Doctors and leading world experts in the field of prehistoric art. This is the third meeting of its kind with conferences previously taking place in 2008 and 2011 in Toulouse and Zaragoza respectively. The conference will be held in the Nerja Museum between the 5th and 8th of December.

Nerja celebrates youth day - 8th Aug 2013

Monday 12th August marks the United Nations 'Youth day' which once again Nerja will be celebrating. At the Plaza de los Cangrejos overlooking Torrecilla beach from 8pm a series of events will take place including workshops, musical performances and a market.

French experts return to the caves - 7th Aug 2013

A team of five scientists from the Chauvet caves in southern France are returning to Nerja to continue their studies of the caves at Maro and more accurately date the paintings found within. The team visited the Nerja Caves last year and collected samples used in a preliminary dating showing the paintings to be approximately 40,000 years old. It's hoped that further studies will conclusively prove whether or not these images are the oldest ever created by humans.

BBC films in Nerja - 5th Aug 2013

Anybody on the Balcón de Europa over the past few days may have seen the BBC filming an episode of the popular childrens TV series 'Woolly and Tig' with various locations in the town being used over the last week. Numerous people turned up to see the shooting on the Balcón, many of which being young British fans of the show. As well as supplying the backdrops Nerja also supplied performers from the local Music and dance school and from the Elena dance academy.

New exhibition in Calle Cristo - 4th Aug 2013

A new exhibition of photographs and oil paintings is now available for public viewing in the Calle Cristo exhibition hall just a short walk from the Balcón de Europa. Elisabet Arana and the photographer Juan Rodríguez are the instigators of the exhibition however many local artists have contributed in support of the local 'Afadine' association for families and friends of the disabled. The pieces reflect five years of travels by the artists taking in countries such as Malaysia, Cambodia, Bolivia and Nepal just to name a few. The exhibition will be open until 14th August.

Three new car parks open - 3rd Aug 2013

Antonio García, local councillor for infrastructure, has announced that as of today three new parking areas with room for 200 hundred vehicles are open for use by the public on the western edge of the town in the Chaparil area. The move is intended to relieve summer congestion and provides badly needed free parking in the town.
