Over 3000 enjoy performances at the 54th Nerja Caves Festival - 2nd Aug 2013

Jorge Hernández Mollar, President of the Nerja Caves Foundation, has announced that this year's music and dance performances drew in crowds of just over 3000 people over the four day long festival. Tickets were snapped up days before the beginning of the event which this year had a 20% budget reduction compared to last year. Although the festival was two days shorter than last year he highlighted the quality of performances that audiences enjoyed adding that the foundation had achieved its objectives.

'España Directo' visits Burriana beach - 31st Aug 2013

The Spanish TV program 'España Directo' yesterday filmed a report down on Burriana beach. The daily program which reports stories from all over Spain came to Nerja primarily to report on the 'Biblioplayas' (beach libraries) which can be found on Burriana and Torrecilla beaches and which were, when they first appeared ten years ago, a pioneering project. This Biblioplayas have received quite some attention recently from various press organizations and are set to appear in the National newspaper El Diario next weekend.

Maro beach best in Andalucia - 30th Jul 2013

Thanks to votes received from the public as part of the Antena 3 'Best beach in Spain' competition, La Cala de Maro has been voted the best beach in the region and will now go on to the final phase with a chance of winning the overall title. The municipality of Nerja has continued to improve its beaches with environmental awareness initiatives like the one that was in progress at El Chucho beach yesterday and is now seeing the results with Maro beach last year only reaching ninth spot in the voting for Andalucias top beaches.

New Car Park in the Rio Chillar - 29th Jul 2013

Nieves Atencia, local councillor for the environment, has announced plans for a new car park to be located in the former cement works along the banks of the Chillar river. The plans include enough space for approximately 63 cars and will be the second parking zone added to the area. The river is an increasingly popular choice for visitors and locals with more and more cars accessing the area each year. The new car park is intended to keep parking in the area more organized whilst allowing easy access for rescue services in the event of an emergency.

Nerja Caves festival comes to an end - 28th Jul 2013

Last night saw the final acts of this year's Music and Dance festival at the Nerja Caves with an emotional performance by renowned flamenco guitarist Manolo Sanlúcar. The evening proved to be particularly special with Sanlúcar announcing that this would be his final performance before retiring and that he was happy and proud to say goodbye here in the province of Malaga.

Spotlight turns to the Rio Chillar - 26th Jul 2013

The Canal Sur TV stations program Andalucía Directo will tomorrow be airing a short report about the Chillar river here in Nerja. The reporters set out early in the morning and were guided by Manolo Navas who brought a wealth of information about the river and the surrounding countryside to the program. Whilst walking the rivers route the team who also recorded a short report about canoeing from Burriana beach to Maro a couple of weeks back, took time to interview fellow walkers including locals and tourists.

First performance at Caves this year - 25th Jul 2013

Last night saw the first performance at the Nerja Caves of this year's Music and Dance festival. The audience, made up of all ages, enjoyed a performance from the Salzburg Soloist String Quarter accompanied by Ferdinand Steiner the acclaimed clarinettist which included pieces by Mozart, Bizet, Verdi, Piazzola y Gershwin.

Maro beach continues to attract interest - 22nd Jul 2013

Thanks to its continuation in this years Antena 3 competition to find Spain's best beach, Maro beach has been visited by yet another TV crew, this time 101 TV which filmed a report along with interviews with the villages mayor and a number of beach goers. The competition for Spain's best beach is now in its second phase with Maro beach currently well ahead in the race for the title of beast beach in Andalusia.

New awards for Nerja - 19th Jul 2013

Oscar Medina, the president of the organisation which overseas all municipalities in the Axarquia region of the Costa del Sol, has today been delivering some 35 certificates to businesses and organisations throughout the area. The awards are part of a nationwide project to improve the quality of tourist destinations within Spain (SICTED) with the Nerja Tourist Office receiving the distinction thanks to the quality of service it offers to visitors as well as beaches Burriana and Torrecilla for their success in receiveing both the Q for qualtiy award and Blue Flag status.

54th Nerja Caves festival begins - 18th Jul 2013

This Saturday will the see the beginning of the 54th Nerja Caves Foundation music and dance festival beginning with a free concert on the Balcón de Europa. The pianist Daniel Ligorio will perform pieces by Gershwin and Falla whilst the Nerja Municipal Band open preceedings with a piece by Jacob de Haan. The program will also include a version of 'Rhapsody in blue' and a medley from 'West Side Story'.

70's & 80's party on Burriana - 18th Jul 2013

Local councillor Sandra Jimena has announced the time and place for a youth concert which will take place on 2nd August on Burriana beach. The theme of the night will be music from the 70's and 80's with a fancy dress competition thrown into the mix. The event will kick off at 10:30 with music from Los Hados Negros, Aquitipartis, Electroduende and Ñclan.

Encouraging hotel figures released - 17th Jul 2013

The worlds largest online travel company Expedia has released its figures for the first quarter of 2013 showing some positive news for hotels along the Costa del Sol. In the first three months of the year bookings were up by 25% on the same period last year with Nerja showing an even bigger increase of 38%. The UK continues to be the largest market for local hotels with Norway and Sweden second and third respectively. Three and four star hotels were shown to be the most popular with the average stay being four nights.
