New structural survey on Los Carabineros walkway - 20th Apr 2013

The Town Hall has announced that a structural study is to be carried out on a 200m stretch of El Paseo de los Carabineros starting from La Calahonda beach. The walkway has been closed for some years due to concerns about its safety however this study marks one of the necessary steps to its reopening. If the studies are favourable it's hoped that the regional department with responsibility for the coastline will see fit to open the section to the public.

Town Hall approves cliff illumination - 19th Apr 2013

Nieves Atencia, councillor responsible for Nerja's beaches, has announced that local government has approved a plan to illuminate the cliffs adjacent to the Balcon de Europa during the evenings, sighting that the Balcon is an area enjoyed by locals and visitors throughout the day. The project is expected to cost in the region of €90,000 with funding expected to come from the Malaga provincial council.

Irish tour operators visit the Nerja - 18th Apr 2013

Last weekend saw a group of ten Irish travel agents from Dublin visit the municipality as part of a tour organised to promote the Costa del Sol as a holiday destination. Whilst in Nerja the group enjoyed a guided visit to the Nerja Caves and had a chance to wander the streets to get an insight into what Nerja has to offer. This visit is similar to that which took place in November where a group of travel agents from Thailand sampled what the region has to offer in order to promote it back in their own country.

Second phase of Paseo de Los Cangrejos begins - 16th Apr 2013

This second phase of work will mainly be related to replacing approximately 300m of hand rails with new ones more resistant to the elements and the close proximity to the sea being fitted. The work is expected to cost around €70,000 and is being paid for solely by the Ayuntamiento despite calls for the coastal authorities to assume the cost of replacing the inadequate railings they had previously fitted.

Recycling efforts continue to grow - 16th Apr 2013

Nerja has reached an agreement with the Organisation for Humanitarian Action regarding the installation of five collection points for used clothing. The deal brings the town into line with current law that states that there should be a collection point for every three thousand inhabitants. The new collection containers will join the three that are already in use and will be maintained by the organisation providing them meaning no extra cost to the municipality.

Axarquia supports its taxi driver's rights - 15th Apr 2013

The municipalities of the Axarquia have all agreed to support taxi drivers from the region and across Malaga province regarding their rights to collect travellers from the airport in a motion recently approved. It comes amid continued tension caused by the taxi drivers of Malaga city who are attempting to exclude their rural colleges from this obvious source of fares. The motion aims to show support but also disapproval of the attitudes and situation that continues to cause problems.

Spring festival in Plaza Tutti Frutti - 13th Apr 2013

Nerja's councillor for youth, Sandra Jimena, has announced that the 27th April has been put aside for Nerja's Fiesta de la Primavera which will be held in Plaza Tutti Frutti from 13:00 until 23:00. The event has been organized by the pubs in the area in collaboration with the Town Hall and will feature live and recorded music from the 80's onwards as well as a temporary central bar in the square and free paella.

Nerja attracts Orange - 12th Apr 2013

For the second time this week cameras have visited the town, this time for the telecommunications company Orange, using Burriana beach and other areas for a TV commercial. It's likely the footage will principally be used in France although it may well be seen in other countries as well. Most of the scenes revolved around a volley ball game on the beach.

Cameras roll on Maro beach - 11th Apr 2013

Maro has played host this week to a visiting photography shoot, with a team of 15 photographers, makeup artists and technicians using Maro's beach as an idyllic Mediterranean backdrop. The team was here to take publicity photos for the shampoo brand Timotei and highlights the municipalities continued popularity for such productions.

Town Hall chases summer subsidies - 9th Apr 2013

Nerja's town hall has shown its intention to pursue the Junta de Andalusia for it to pay the yearly subsidies for services relating to sea water cleaning and beach management amid concerns at cut backs. Without the subsidies the municipality would need to find around €100,000 to maintain the beaches. Councillor Nieves Atencia highlighted the irrational nature of these cuts given that tourism is currently viewed as the primary motor of the economy.

This years San Isidro parade starts to shape up - 8th Apr 2013

Although the preparations for this years San Isidro parade, which will take place on 15th May are well under way, the councillor for popular traditions, Sandra Jimena, has reminded residents of the town that the period to apply for temporary bars, food and ice cream stalls and even permission to bring drawn carriages is still open and will be so until 3rd May in the main town hall building.

Héctor Sequero presents "Lo real" - 8th Apr 2013

The architect and painter Héctor Sequero is now exhibiting 35 of his works in the exhibition hall of "calle Cristo" in Nerja. The paintings on display reflect the evolution of his work throughout his painting life with different techniques and subjects on display. The exhibition will be open until the 28th April for both morning and evening viewing.
