Nerja Caves reach Madrid - 29th Jan 2013
The general manager, president and vice presidents of the Nerja Caves Foundation will be visiting Madrid this Thursday in a promotional visit bringing this year's Music and Dance Festival held at the caves annually to a new and exciting forum at the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR). The 54th edition of this festival will be officially presented in Nerja in either March or April and held in the last week of July however the opportunity to promote the caves and Nerja at this prestigious event was too good to miss. This marks another step in the continued efforts of the Nerja Caves to open up this natural attraction to new audiences.
Nerja Carnival exhibition - 26th Jan 2013
A new exhibition has opened in the Sala Mercado showing off the past winning costumes of the Nerja Carnival. The exhibition is the work of the Nerja Carnival commission which has worked hard to bring together past costumes made by residents of the town for this popular yearly fiesta. The exhibition will be open for a week following this yearâs events to allow time for visitors and residents to see the winning outfits from this yearâs edition.
Visit by fifty British students - 24th Jan 2013
This week first year students studying Geography at the Royal Holloway University of London have come to the municipality as part of a field trip to carry out work pertaining to tourism and the environment. The students will be doing field work in both Nerja and Maro with the assistance of local officials and councillors from the Town Hall as part of a program that has featured in the curriculum of the Royal Holloway and other universities both in the UK and other countries for almost ten years.
Water cuts tomorrow - 23rd Jan 2013
Aguas de Narixa has announced that due to a continuing program of improvements to local infrastructure supplies will be interrupted tomorrow between the hours of 8am and 3pm in the streets Pintada, Colón, Carretas, Trancos, San José, Almirante Ferrandiz and Mirto.
Winter arrives in Nerja - 22nd Jan 2013
This week has seen a distinct turn in the weather with a drop in temperatures, some light showers and above all almost continuous strong winds. Winter has most definitely shown its face to the area with temperatures likely to stay low over the coming week.
Visit by Malaga's blood donation services - 19th Jan 2013
On Monday 21st January Malaga's mobile blood donation service will visit Nerja. Anybody wishing to donate can come to the church of El Salvador next to the Balcon de Europa between the hours of 10am until 2pm and from 5pm until 9pm.
Museum offers new Nerja history lectures - 18th Jan 2013
The cultural association 'La Volaera' has organized, in conjunction with the natural history museum, a series of lectures to take place in its general purpose hall with free entrance. The lectures are set to be offered on a quarterly basis with the first one being held on the 12th February, covering Nerja's resistance to Franco's regime.
Nerja increasingly popular with TV and film producers - 17th Jan 2013
The town continues to attract film crews for both television and cinema productions with two such visits over the next couple of days as announced by the Town Hall. Last year 12 applications were received for both national and international productions to use its streets as backdrops, something welcomed by local councillors as it provides free promotion for Nerja and its picturesque surroundings.
Build up to Carnival begins - 16th Jan 2013
If you're wandering around Nerja in the coming weeks you'll more than likely see a colourful poster for this year's Carnival which was presented today by Sandra Jimena, councillor for popular traditions. The poster is a mosaic made up of almost 2000 photos from last year's celebrations and is released just prior to an exhibition of costumes and all things related to this popular tradition in La Sala Mercado. This year's Carnival will be taking place from the 7th to the 10th February.
Maro prepares for San Antón - 16th Jan 2013
This years patronage festival in Maro which celebrates the villages patron saint San Antón has been moved back by a day from its usual dates in order that more people can enjoy this yearly event. The villages committee made the decision to push the celebrations back towards the weekend so that people who work or are otherwise out of the municipality throughout the week have the opportunity to enjoy at least some of the events that are taking place.

Nerja's fire-fighters in action - 15th Jan 2013
Five fire fighting crews were involved last Sunday in an operation to extinguish a blaze in the area of Cañuelo beach just to the east of Nerja. The fire took almost three hours to extinguish thanks to difficult conditions caused by strong winds which lead to its effects being felt over a 5000m2 area of this protected natural park.
Political groups unite on key projects - 12th Jan 2013
In Nerja's latest parliamentary meeting amongst the points discussed were subjects relating to the development of the new health centre and the work to upgrade and expand the facilities for the local fire fighting services. On these points all local groups unanimously voted through a motion to be presented to the Junta de Andalucia raising hopes that these important projects will move ahead.
