Electricity cuts planned for Monday - 11th Jan 2013
The electricity company Endesa has announced that on Monday 14th January between the hours of 11:00 and 15:00 there will be a cut in supply due to infrastructure maintenance. The areas affected will be the streets El Barrio, Castilla Perez and Calle Malaga.
Street improvements set to continue - 10th Jan 2013
The Town Hall has announced that the proposed work to be carried out on the short street connecting Plaza de España and Calle Carmen has been approved with a budget of €60,000. The area has undergone significant improvement in recent years however this small street which is frequently used by visitors to the town who have parked in the close by municipal car park has been left looking rather tatty. The work aims to improve it's aesthetics to fit in with it's surroundings.
The Three kings arriveâ¦â¦.and they bring sweets with them - 5th Jan 2013
Lots turned out to see this yearâs Three Kings procession through the towns streets that saw Los Reyes Magos arrive at the Balcón de Europa accompanied by lots of characters from popular childrenâs stories. Once there Balthasar, Caspar and Melchior offered their gifts to Jesus in a nativity scene set up outside the church of El Salvador in front of hundreds of local residents and tourists.
El Cartero Real arrives in Nerja - 3rd Jan 2013
If you were on the Balcón de Europa this afternoon you would likely have stumbled across the official postman for the soon to visit Reyes Magos (Three Kings), along with lots of local children ready to hand on their wish lists. Once their letters were posted the children had their photo taken with the Cartero and his Paigeâs and each walked off with a little bag of sweets to top it off.
Residents day 2013 preparations - 3rd Jan 2013
The Town Hall has begun its planning for this yearâs Residents Day events with the 14th April being the date earmarked. The celebrations will be held, as in previous years, in Plaza de España in front of the Nerja Museum and all local groups and associations who are interested in taking part are welcome to join a meeting in the Town Hall at 11am on 18th January to confirm their place.
Town Hall support for Nerjaâs taxis - 27th Dec 2012
The Town Hall has passed a motion to actively support the right of Nerjaâs taxi drivers to continue picking up passengers at the airport despite strong protests from the taxi drivers of Malaga. Currently Nerjaâs taxi drivers are well within their rights to make pickups from the airport and port however the Town Hall aims to seek assurances from Malagaâs council that the safety of local taxi drivers from Nerja can be guaranteed.
Santa comes to Nerja - 24th Dec 2012
Father Christmas got a warm welcome on the streets of Nerja today as hundreds of residents and tourists came to greet him as he toured the town as part of a procession in his honour. Onlookers were showered with sweets as the parade passed by to music provided by the municipal band.
The Nerja Cave Foundation 2013 budget approved - 21st Dec 2012
The Caves Foundation approved the Budget for the 2013 yesterday and showed a clear commitment to the continued research, conservation and maintenance of the cave network. The budget did however mirror the increasingly difficult economic climate with a reduction of 220,000 euros from the previous years spending plans.
La Sala Mercado, a playground for this Christmas!! - 18th Dec 2012
The Department of Education and Culture has continued with its initiative of previous years, in partnership with the Axarquipark company, by turning La Sala Mercado into an indoor amusement park for small children. This has been particularly popular in previous years, in part thanks to its very low cost, providing a safe and fun environment for very young children to play. Over the Christmas Holidays the hall will be open for visitors both mornings and evenings.
Nerja Caves look to cruise passengers to increase visitor numbers - 17th Dec 2012
As part of the continuing efforts to increase visitor numbers to the natural attraction it's been announced that Ãngel Ruiz, general manager of the Caves has participated in the 'Mesa de Cruceros de la Costa del Sol', a group which looks to develop and improve the experience enjoyed by cruise visitors to the area. From here it's hoped that the Nerja Caves will enjoy greater exposure to an increasingly popular area of tourism in the region and reach the 500,000 visitors that the attraction once received.
An unusual history of Nerja - 14th Dec 2012
The Nerja museum will be the setting on 21st December for the presentation of a new book written by the investigator Pablo Rojo Platero. The book covers numerous unknown and surprising stories from the townâs past including local myths, unsolved crimes, kidnappings and tales of smugglers. The presentation of this much anticipated book, funded largely by local businesses will start at 7:30pm with copies available for purchase from the museum itself.
Nerja prepares for Santa and the Three Kings - 12th Dec 2012
The town hall has finalised its plans for this years processions for both Santa's visit and the visit of the three kings which will take place on the 23rd and 5th respectively. Both processions start at 5pm with Santa starting from the Town Hall whilst the three kings parade will begin at El Parque Verano Azul.
