Restoring La Torrecilla - 21st Sep 2012
The restoration of the watchtower on La Torrecilla beach is once again on the agenda at the Town Hall with Nieves Atencia, the Councillor with responsibility for beaches taking the initiative and submitting a motion at the next plenary session. Speaking about how she intends to move the project forward, she remarked how this had been a long standing desire within the municipality.Â
Rio Chillar cleanup - 20th Sep 2012
Nerja's Town Hall in collaboration with the Civil Protection group has organized another days cleanup of the Rio Chillar following the success of the move last year with some 800 Kilos of rubbish being removed from the river by volunteers. Those interested in participating are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes and of course, be prepared to get wet. If you want to get involved the meeting place is the Calle Mirto car park at half past eight on 30th September.
Nerja exceeds 90% occupancy through summer - 19th Sep 2012
Nerjaâs Tourist Office has provided hotel occupancy data for the summer period (June, July and August) showing that this year Nerja's hotels actually did better than last with figures slightly higher than the previous summer over the same period. August was the busiest month with over 93 percent occupancy.
Campaign to renew street furniture - 18th Sep 2012
The Town Hall has begun carrying out its new campaign to improve the benches and outdoor public seating throughout Nerja. Existing benches will be substituted in the coming months for newer versions made of recycled material as announced by Nieves Atencia, local councillor for parks and gardens, beginning with the benches found in Plaza Huerto de las Monjas.
The Balcón de Europa is as popular as ever with tourists - 17th Sep 2012
Recent information provided by a Tripadvisor survey has shown that 95% of visitors to Nerja and specifically to the Balcón de Europa rate the experience as either 'Very Good' or 'Excellent'. Some of the comments made by visitors highlighted the Balcón de Europa's cleanliness, great views, atmosphere and relaxing Mediterranean breeze.
The new exhibition of the Costa Camera Club - 13th Sep 2012
La Sala Mercado found in la Plaza de La Ermita is now exhibiting a collection of photographs by the Costa Camera Club, an association of foreigners, mostly British, resident in Nerja and nearby municipalities. The collection includes images of fiestas, landscapes and still lifes all from the local area. The work of 12 photographers will be on display until 22nd September and can be visited from 11am until 1pm and then from 7pm until 9pm.
Nerja's feria begins to take shape - 12th Sep 2012
José Miguel GarcÃa has announced that the Town Hall will be holding a meeting on 13th September at 10:30am regarding the auction/distribution of attractions for this years feria and that any interested parties should attend. The following day the distribution of the various booths, vendor positions and raffle rights will be on the agenda and finally on the 3rd October the craft stalls will receive their positions.
The Feria de las Maravillas en Maro - 11th Sep 2012
Maro has once again celebrated its feria de las Maravillas bringing hundreds of people together in this little village a stones throw from the Nerja Caves. At times the feria was an intense occasion with the choosing of the King and Queen of the feria being an emotional affair and the procession of the Virgen de las Maravillas being particularly poignant, with some of the attendees struggling to hold back the tears.
Paco MartÃn exhibits his work in the Municipal Hall in Calle Cristo - 10th Sep 2012
The artist Paco Gallardo Martin is now presenting his exhibition âReencuentro con la pinturaâ following its opening attended by friends and the councillor for culture, Gemma Garcia. The collection includes a variety of subjects from flamenco to bullfighting, local scenes to self portraits and displays the Nerja residents personal style of painting. Those wishing to view the collection can do so up until 23rd September in the Sala de exposiciones.
70% of tourists who visit Nerja would return - 7th Sep 2012
A survey carried out by SOPDE who specialize in developing tourism and local economies found that of the visitors surveyed some 71.14% said they would return to Nerja in the next three years, reflected in the fact that 24.16% of the people asked confirmed that they had visited Nerja on multiple occasions. The study also showed that the average visitor age was 48, that most visitors plan their stay primarily via internet and that the majority of foreign tourists come from England.
28 companies compete for Burriana parking contract - 6th Sep 2012
The Town Halls committee has met in order to look over the offers made by some 28 separate companies for the contract to construct a new underground carpark in the Burriana area. So far everything regarding the project is going to schedule with work expected to start in late October.
Application period for 2013 exhibitions now open - 4th Sep 2012
Gema Garcia, the Councilor for Education and Culture, has announced that the application period to exhibit in the local council halls for 2013 is officially open. If you wish to make use of the facility to exhibit, typically paintings and other artistic works the necessary forms can be collected in the Nerja Cultural Centre in Calle Granada.
