The Cultural Centres 60's Gala - 4th Oct 2012

This Friday 5th October the Nerja Cultural Centre will host the gala 'Cómo han pasado los años' (How the years have passed), a musical journey through Spanish pop and rock of the sixties. The event promises to be a lively affair with music from the group 'Locos por los 60' with entrance costing six Euros and the performance itself starting at 9pm.

Further work on water infrastructure - 3rd Oct 2012

Aguas de Narixa has announced that there will be further cuts to the towns water supply due to their continuing work to improve the water infrastructure. The areas of Burriana, la Maquinilla and las Protegidas will experience cuts to their supply from 8am until 3pm on the 3rd October. As on previous occasions, the company advises residents to run their taps before consuming any water following the work.

Funding is confirmed for Nerja's water purification plant - 2nd Oct 2012

Despite contradicting information recently published, a Town Hall representative has confirmed that funding is in place for Nerja's long awaited water treatment plant with the project finally starting in 2013. The plant must be up and running by 2015 to comply with EU targets and is estimated to cost some 40.6 million Euros.

Areas of Nerja may suffer water cuts tomorrow - 1st Oct 2012

The Narixa Water Company has announced that between 8am and 3pm on the 2nd October some Nerja residents may experience temporary water cuts. The cuts are necessary for infrastructure upgrades and will specifically take place in Calle Ruperto Andúez, Almirante Ferrándiz, Alejandro Bueno and Barriada de las Protegidas. It is recommended that residents in these areas run theirs taps for up to five minutes following the works before consuming any water.

Antonio Cortes nominated for Latin Grammy - 30th Sep 2012

The local, Nerja born singer is nominated for his work ‘Cuando quieras’ in the category of Best Flamenco Album. The awards are due to be held on 15th November in Mandalay Bay hotel and casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Antonio is due to perform at this years feria on the 12th October with tickets costing just 15 Euros at the door.

The patrons of Nerja walk the streets - 29th Sep 2012

In preparation for this years Nerja Feria the images of the Virgin, Our Lady of Sorrows and St Michael Archangel were paraded through the streets of the town accompanied by crowds of both locals and tourists. The two patrons of the town will now remain in the church of El Salvador until the 10th October, when the Virgin will be returned to her chapel following mass.

Water Narixa scammers - 28th Sep 2012

In recent days a number of elderly Nerja residents have received visits to their homes by individuals claiming to be representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) investigating claims that the towns water supply contains traces of lead and is not suitable for human consumption. Both the Town Hall and Aguas de Narixa have clarified that this is totally untrue and residents should not let these individuals into their homes.

Malaga put on red alert due to rain - 27th Sep 2012

Due to the forecast heavy rain La Junta de Andalucia has ordered that all schools and colleges in the province, including those of Nerja and Maro be evacuated as a precautionary measure this Friday. The sudden heavy rain is expected to cause flooding and accidents throughout the province with motorist being advised to be cautious on the roads.

Program for the 2012 Feria is released - 26th Sep 2012

Councilor José Miguel García, has announced the schedule for the Nerja feria 2012 to be held from 10th to 13th October. Despite a reduction of some 40% in the budget for this years fair, the program is still action packed with headline music from David De Maria, Antonio Cortes and Los Mojinos Escozíos.

Coro Rociero de la Peña Nerjeña and their new album  - 25th Sep 2012

The choir of 'Rociero de la Peña Nerjeña' released on Friday a new album 'Cositas de mi Nerja' in the Cultural Centre. The album contains ten songs, among which you'll find rumbas, Sevillanas (typical Spanish folk music) and even carols, some written by Francis Barranquero Portillo, choir director. 

Will Los Mojinos Escozíos close this years Feria? - 24th Sep 2012

It's been confirmed that the popular Spanish group Los Mojinos Escozíos will be performing at this years Feria bringing their own particular brand of music and sometimes crazy humour. The date has been announced on the groups official website for the 13th October.

The Villa de Nerja Cultural Center opens its season early - 21st Sep 2012

In response to the ever growing number of shows, the Cultural Center has announced that this seasons productions will open one month earlier than expected, starting the 22nd September with ‘La vida es sueño’, a play performed by the Deucalión theater company. The play has free admission and starts at 9pm.
