Collective exhibition open to the public - 19th Mar 2013
The municipal exhibition hall is now showing a collection of works by three foreign residents of Nerja. Grazia Gintz, Susan Cobley and Stephen Powell are exhibiting their photographical and abstract works along with decorated porcelains. The exhibit will last until 28th March and is open for viewing both mornings and afternoons.
Cultural Centre celebrates poetry - 18th Mar 2013
On the 21st March the Nerja Cultural Centre will present a program of events to mark World Poetry Day with a series of performances by local poets. The performances will begin from 20:00 and are part of a UNESCO initiative to preserve poetry as an instrument of communication and expression.
Nerja caves photographic route - 16th Mar 2013
Tomorrow the Nerja caves will play host to a visit from local photographers of the Nerja Fotoclub association with members visiting the attraction. It's expected that around twenty members will take the opportunity to photograph the caves, attempting to capture their beauty with a selection of the best photographs being used by the caves foundation in future promotion of the attraction to national and international visitors.
Want to exhibit your work? - 14th Mar 2013
The inscription period is now open for anybody wishing to use the municipal halls such as La Sala Mercado and La Sala de Calle Cristo for exhibits in the second quarter of the year. Anybody wishing to apply for their use can do so before the 31st March in the Cultural Centre or via sending an email to cultura@nerja.es.
Water treatment plant suffers further hold ups - 13th Mar 2013
The joint venture of Corsan-Corvia-Isolux who will be building the new plant have applied for and been granted a two month extension on the period within which they must provide their final development plan for the project to the ministry for the environment, according to the mayor of Nerja. The extension is ironically aimed at reducing the overall time of the approval process by delivering a plan that leaves as little room as possible for the need for modifications once submitted.
Hispanic-Nordic association stays informed - 12th Mar 2013
The association that is now made up of some 800 members from countries such as Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden has held its annual meeting with local councilors and covered a number of topics such as the towns new water treatment plant, health centre and laws recently put in place by the Junta de Andalucia concerning coastal protection. The meeting greatly improves communication between local authorities and the growing number of Scandinavian residents proving very informative for all involved.
El Barrio street works commence - 12th Mar 2013
These works which make up the second phase of improvements to this particular street are expected to last four months and therefore be completed prior to the summer season. The overall bill for total work in this area is €500,000 with funds coming from various sources including the province of Malaga and Nerja town hall.
Nerja just as popular with Spaniards - 12th Mar 2013
According to a recent poll by the Spanish holiday company VacacionesEspaña.es, Nerja is one of the top national destinations for Spanish families to spend their Easter break. Nerja obtained 23% of the votes while Malaga province as a whole received 52%. Statistics showed that foreign visitors tended to rent apartments during this period whilst national visitors opted for villas.
Equality march a success - 11th Mar 2013
Yesterday saw the third annual 'equality march' through the streets of Nerja as part of international women's day. Some 350 people took part in the event which took them all around the town including the promenade of La Torrecilla beach, the Rivera del RÃo Chìllar and Plaza de España.
Tango hits Nerja - 8th Mar 2013
It's been announced that Producciones Lastra is set to bring an evening of Tango to Nerja on the 5th April as part of the Noches de Tango (Tango nights) series that is held each year in Nerja. The show will take place in the Cultural Centre in Calle Granada and will start at 21:00. Tickets are available in the center's ticket office and cost €12.
School children visit Miró exhibition - 7th Mar 2013
Local primary school children will get to visit the Joan Miró exhibition of 32 posters which is currently open to the public at the Nerja Museum. Some 400 pupils will visit the museum in the coming days and take part in activities to learn more about this important surrealist artist.
Walkers follow on from cyclists - 6th Mar 2013
This Sunday walkers will take to the streets of Nerja for the third "Walk for Equality". The event which last year was made up of some 400 participants will start from Plaza de España and follow a 3km route around the town returning back to its starting place. The official starting time is 12:00 although if you wish to take part you need to arrive 15 minutes prior for registration. This non-competitive event follows on from Dia del Pedal which took place just over a week ago.
