El Barco de Chanquete undergoes renovation - 4th Jun 2013
Local councillor, Nieves Atencia, has announced today that the Ayuntamiento has approved the project to renovate the Barco de Chanquete located in the Parque Verano Azul. The boat is famous all over Spain after featuring in the TV series Verano Azul which was made in Nerja in the early 80's. The expected cost of this restoration is approximately €36,000.
BBC set to film in Nerja this summer - 3rd Jun 2013
Nerja is set to play host this summer to a visiting BBC film crew. The crew will be here filming for a children's TV programme called "Woolly and Tig" on the 2nd and 3rd of August and will be active on Burriana and Calahonda beaches as well as the Balcón de Europa.
El Playazo beach road stays open - 31st May 2013
It's been announced today that following weeks of uncertainty Costas, the coastal agency of the region, will not be closing the road behind El Playazo beach. It had been expected that the agency would take such action due to concerns of local land owners in the area regarding the roads use. In an attempt to reduce the roads use in the summer months a new car park has been given the go ahead with direct access to the old N340, meaning that cars will no longer have to use the beach track to access parking.
54th Edition of the Nerja Caves festival - 30th May 2013
Tickets have gone on sale for this years Nerja Caves music and dance festival. This years program is due to begin on the 20th July with the first performance at the caves themselves scheduled for the 24th July. Due to reduced seating at this years performances it's recommended that interested parties purchase tickets as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Tickets can be bought from the caves official website or from the ticket office at the Caves themselves, costing between €25 - €40.
Blue Flags renewed - 23rd May 2013
Two of Nerja's most popular tourist beaches, Burriana and La Torrecilla, have once again been awarded Blue Flag status by the ADEAC association as a mark of environmental awareness and quality of experience for beach goers. Local councillor José Miguel GarcÃa said that it was in no small part thanks to the work the Town Hall and local businesses had undertaken over the past years but that they still must continue to work and improve.
Caves remove permanent seating - 22nd May 2013
The Nerja Caves foundation has decided to remove the small permanent grandstand in the 'Sala de la Cascada' used by the public during the international festival of music and dance each summer. The decision was made primarily due to the deteriorating state of the structure that was installed during the 70's. The work to remove the structure will be carried out during the evening in order that the caves continues to be available to the public during the day however this does mean seating for this year's music festival will be restricted.
Fábrica Rock 2013 - 21st May 2013
Nerja's sixth edition of its 'Rock Factory' music festival is to be held on the 8th June on El Playazo beach, more specifically in the car park area next to the merendero Pepe Mesa. Performances will begin at midday with entrance costing €5 and free Paella included. Music is provided principally by local groups with this year's edition including three new groups from Nerja.
Nerja's second Noche en Blanco declared a great success - 20th May 2013
Gema Garcia, councillor for education and culture, has thanked everybody involved in last Saturday's cultural events as well as the general public for turning out in such large numbers to support the festival, despite the changeable weather. Nerja's second Noche en Blanco, which was comprised of some 600 performers, drew in many town's people and tourists as well as visitors from neighbouring municipalities.
Another director chooses Nerja - 18th May 2013
The German film maker Doris Dörrie plans to film scenes for her next project entitled "All Inclusive" on the Costa del Sol and it has been announced that with the collaboration of the Nerja Town Hall will shoot all of the films beach scenes her in Nerja. Roda Productions International and the Ayuntamiento have been in talks over the last few weeks concerning the project with beaches such as Caletilla, Calahonda and El Salón being used as well as the Balcón de Europa.
San Isidro procession continues to draw in the crowds - 16th May 2013
The Town Hall estimates that some 10,000 people took part in the San Isidro parade up to the Nerja Caves yesterday, despite the windy conditions. Fortunately the sun stayed out throughout the majority of the day although festivities didn't stop there with the party continuing at the caves where prizes were awarded to participants for best horse drawn carrage, oxen cart and horseman.
Nerja prepares for its second Noche En Blanco - 14th May 2013
The program is set for Nerja's second Noche En Blanco due to take place on 18th May. From 10am until late Nerja will see entertainment, music, dancing and cultural events all over the town, free for everybody to enjoy. You can find out more about the events taking place here.
Town Hall chases funds for new firestation - 13th May 2013
The Ayuntamiento de Nerja is continuing to chase funds for the development of Nerja's new firestation. Although funds for the complex itself have been secured the access roads to the station itself are to be jointly paid for by the Town Hall and the Malaga provincial council as agreed in a meeting in November 2012. Last month all necessary paperwork was presented to the council however funds have still not been issued.
